Reaching out and saving lives (from Beyondblue)

BeyondblueWorld Suicide Prevention Day

Reaching out and Saving Lives

As you all know today is World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme this year is ‘Preventing Suicide: Reaching Out and Saving Lives’, reflecting the importance that reaching out and forming connections can have in reducing suicide risk.  It is also RUOK Day.

We’re using a number of social media channels to share the key messages behind this important day, encourage conversations and highlighting the power of connection. We are promoting these powerful message though a suite of new beyondblue resources including videos of eight of our very own blueVoices members bravely sharing their personal stories of suicide.

Today blueVoices member Shane, who shared his story on social media on Tuesday, will be making himself available between 1pm and 2pm to answer questions about his experience live online. This is the first time that beyondblue has held a safe and moderated live chat session with a blueVoices member and we are excited about providing the opportunity for people seeking help to speak with someone who has had this experience.

You can see Shane’s full story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rocp7J6ea3A
